- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2021This is the beaglebone bible. Anyone wanting to understand how to program in C/C++/Java/JavaScript/Node.js/pearl/python/bash and use a beaglebone the way it was meant to be used needs this book as a reference. I got my information to program my beaglebone black off the internet through support forums for years. Had I known this book contains everything you need to know about running the PRUs and the many I/Os on the beaglebone, I would of got this the day I bought my beaglebone. The professor gives many examples in various programming languages so you aren’t just stuck trying to make code on “bone script” like a lot of the internet examples show.
Do not hesitate to get this if you are on the fence about this book. Dr. Molloy, the author, is actively teaching in the ECE department at Dublin City University. This means the man is very knowledgeable on the subject and you cannot get any better reference than a university teacher on these subjects.

Images in this review - Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2020The only thing I'd want is for it to cover BeagleBone AI and BeagleBone Blue. Otherwise, this book is the best resource for BeagleBone, period. It dives into hardware and software details with loads of examples. The associated website is extremely useful. I'd love a bit more theory for a full computer science course, but this book is already nicely sized and Embedded Linux Primer makes a nice companion if you are trying to build a course on embedded Linux.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 26, 2020If you are into working in beaglebone is a most have book. But also have huge sections and chapters dedicated to other topics related to writing C++ for embedded Linux, configuring your development environment, electronics, is dense is pack , is fun and very instructive , the autor is a very good teacher and the book show that, is well organized and walk you over every single chapter.
Some of the new kernels changes for the beaglebone are not working as should and there is no answer to some of the problems.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2020People who are into BeagleBone know about Derek Molloy. His books dwarf all others.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2020If u want 2 learn embededd linux using mcu peripheral set / interface hardware applications, just get the book.... a professor wrote the book 4 his class! - Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2019I thoroughly devoured the first edition, just as I did Dr. Molloy's excellent "Exploring Raspberry Pi". This is an update worthy of purchase, even if you've already worked through the first edition. The new information covering the Pocket Beagle and other newer editions of the Beagle Boards is characteristically excellent, as is the author's support through the companion web site.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2019Not simply rehashing the ideas of the old, this version gives new insights that are up to date and relevant. I would say that it even replaces the old text as there is no reason to go back to reference anything. Wish I had more time to practice some of the tutorials.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2019The price is correct too. Don't know how these textbook manufacturers get off charging 200 for a texbook - with this paperback you'll learn tons about Embedded Linux and the Beaglebone for just a few dollars. Very fair price and great quality. Good binding too, pages dont fall out or anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would say my money well spent.
I liked the topics covered in the book and the examples under each topic. They are very comprehensive. The breadth and the depth of the book is unparalleled. I appreciate Derek for taking time to write about alternative approaches and their pros and cons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Esquina golpeada.
